I’m Patrice, Founder of Take Note. I’m so glad you’ve found your way here. A lifetime before I had the right language or depth of understanding, I knew I experienced the world differently. My inner world was a vivid playground with deeply felt emotions, senses and rich strands of thought. I was fascinated by the way people think and behave, yet I often felt like I was filtering myself just to be understood. I learned to adapt to anything and everything. I became expressive, talkative and high-achieving with a deep attunement to others. When things were tough – which was often – I learned to push through and celebrate that resilience. I achieved everything I set my mind to. Things worked so ridiculously well that it was easy to ignore the hidden cost. Until it wasn’t possible. My capacity, performance and wellbeing plummeted and nothing that used to work could shift me back into gear. I couldn’t determine what was best for me amongst what was feeding my difficulties. I was exhausted, lost and drowning in responsibility. As my kids got older, the pressures of daily life grew despite others saying it gets easier. It wasn’t. I was drowning, in schedules that didn’t work, appointments that lead to dead ends, and a the shame that despite my best efforts everything felt like a battle. My kids showed signs of the same struggles that pointed to neurodiversity.
